Last week we talked about how to adjust your daily routine to the spring season. This week I will offer suggestion on the bigger picture of your lifestyle during this season.
Again, we are working to balance the qualities of kapha that are high during this time period by applying opposite qualities: so where we see/feel heaviness, we’re wanting to bring in lightness where we are oily and watery, let’s dry things out, where things are too soft, we likely would benefit from some discipline (constructive hardness),if we feel slow, let’s move and speed things up a little, and where we are cool, let’s warm ourselves up!
Balancing Lifestyle for Spring
Fast for one day a week if you feel heavy (or do a mono-diet of kitchari) – preferably Monday or Thursday
Daily active exercise – be active
Sweat everyday to melt any accumulated kapha from winter
Go outside everyday and enjoy the blooming season – lifts the spirit!
Eucalyptus essential oil or incense
Seek out the new
Set goals and go for it!
Spend time w friends and family
Kapha requires awakening on all levels – senses, breath, imagination, emotions, and spiritual realms – not just the physical. Begin to notice what you already are doing that is in line with the season… The tendency is to think that we have to do new things, yet Ayurveda teaches us that this wisdom and knowledge already exists within us 😉 Let me know what you were already doing that is seasonally aligned, and any new things you’re trying and how that’s working for you.
