Yin emphasizes working the connective tissues and fascia of the body, as opposed to the muscles. In order to access the connective tissues, the sequencing involves long holds (from 1 to 10 minutes) in postures that work with gravity. There is little to no emphasis on breath work in this class.
Yin yoga is simple, but not easy. The entire practice is one of mindfulness and meditation through the use of internal or external focal points. Yin Yoga is unique in that it is based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine Meridian Theory, stimulating various organs and energy pathways.
