Toni first tried yoga as a high school student looking to get some extra credit in her physical education class. For the next 15 years she would come to yoga videos off and on, never sustaining a consistent practice, but enjoying the gentle playfulness she felt during and after each class. It was not until after a particularly challenging time dealing with and recovering from post-infectious IBS that Toni began to maintain a consistent practice.
Yoga has helped Toni while dealing with chronic pain, migraines, and as a way to increase her activity level after a long recovery. Yoga has helped Toni to accept and appreciate the things that she is able to do, and has helped her to practice patience with her body when she is not able to complete a task or pose. She believes this is an important lesson for anyone recovering from or dealing with any illness or injury.
Toni incorporates a mindfulness practice into all of her classes or private sessions, encouraging her students to recognize, without judgment, where they are at in that moment. She is an encouraging teacher who wants to see you smile and maybe even laugh. Learning and growth play an important role in Toni’s life, so if you attend one of Toni’s classes, don’t be surprised if you walk away with homework (optional, of course) or if you learn something new about yourself or your body.
Toni is a certified RYT 200 hour, and currently working on her 300 hour certificate at Janati Yoga School. Additionally, she has training in mindful meditation and therapeutic yoga. Some of her teachers include Mona Warner, Susi Hately, Diana Winston and Gael Belden. She is currently rounding out her education by completing her Bachelor of General Studies via distance education through Athabasca University.
When Toni is not teaching or learning more about yoga she can probably be found cuddled up on her couch with her husband and their 2 cats watching the latest sci-fi shows, or creating with watercolours. She has been known to never turn down food, and will gladly help you finish your Sudoku.
