I had Yin all wrong before I watched this video. “supported but alert and awake” and “focus on stretching out the connective tissue” completely changed my Yin practice.
Interesting that Yin Yoga is not Indian. Now that I have a better understanding of the approach that Yin takes and the “why” behind it, I find it easier to practice yin classes, because initially I had a very hard time quieting my mind, but I think after understanding that the focus is on the deeper tissues and being in a mediative state, I am able to find more ease within the poses. Key Points: Yin Yoga is not Indian, simple is not easy. It is a variety of movements. It allows you to be in the pose. You feel grounded. This practice is like slow moving meditation. The life stories of Siobhan McAuley are interesting especially when she talked about the long gap between her yoga practice
