I love the conversation about personal practice and how he said that although he learned and “agreed” that a personal practice was not limited to a time, a place or any particular idea when he started teaching he did “believe” this. I’m using words that aren’t exactly the ones expressed but what I really appreciated was this verbalization of the multiple levels in which we can “know” something. In my experience the recognition of the dissonance between the intellectual and embodiment is a necessary (the first?) step in integration. This was a beautiful reminder of process… slow and slow. 😉
I have practiced at the Moda studio for a few years on and off and always wondered about the name change…very interesting to hear how the transition happened. Matthew was a very dynamic, passionate speaker who was very open and honest about his ever evolving journey as a yoga teacher. He explained that he is recently exploring “falling into the posture” and the subtleness between falling into it and having to organize himself to let it unfold.
The important points: Modo yoga is evolving, it is based on Bikram Yoga. Love the advice ‘Don’t try too hard’ but the importance of 10,000 hours of practice, trust body signals you receive, let yoga practice unfold you and that western students come to the class to meet real people
