After the election in November of 2016, I found myself feeling very angry and I started to see the world as a horrific place, that is filled with sadness, racism and hatred.
I began to get caught up in the anger and rage that I was seeing. I developed a CNN addiction where everything was BREAKING NEWS. I did not like how I was feeling.
Did you know that on average we now reach ‘compassion fatigue’ after hearing just one challenging news story, affecting one person?
In these times of great tumult and change, it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves. I realized, I wasn’t feeling anger or rage – I was feeling vulnerable.
I was feeling vulnerable as a woman. I was feeling vulnerable being Black. I was feeling vulnerable for my family who lived in the US. I was feeling vulnerable in sharing my opinions. I was feeling vulnerable for all those who feel oppression. I was just feeling and feeling and feeling.
My mother’s death has taught me that life goes on – that life is precious and that we are vulnerable. I started to go within and use my healing tools, such as yoga, reiki, and prayers. I got back to my practice. I stopped watching CNN for hours on end. I got back to my soul center. It was during these introspective times that, I realized that I SAW HOPE.
When all hope is lost – we become angry, scared and helpless. We start to isolate ourselves and see us vs them.
Once I started to see hope, my thoughts started to switch.
Hope is a powerful emotion. It allows you to see solutions. It allows you to get out of the muck and move forward and through what you fear – and what pains you. SO CHOOSE HOPE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE….CHOOSE HOPE!!!
