Our world today is so very demanding and fast, so many people are living out of balance, from in my opinion, over-stimulation, jam-packed schedules, too much screen time, wifi, multi-tasking, ingesting toxic substances and juggling a million things at once. Our central nervous systems are just not equipped to handle this much stress and so many of us are suffering, physically and mentally, becoming so disconnected from ourselves, our loved ones and the world around us. I feel confident in saying this, as I have been there and lived it!
For as long as I can remember, I have been flying on auto pilot, so disconnected from myself, living with so much judgment, fear, anger and resentment. From quite a young age, I began building walls up around me, where I became like a fortress, not allowing anyone in or letting myself out. I slowly started shutting down, turning away from living my life, just going through the motions, constantly filling myself with toxic substances, thoughts and feelings.
I grew up with a very loving, supportive family, married the man of my dreams, have many great friendships and built a decent career in the not for profit sector, but for some reason this fear and disconnect always seemed to follow me. And in my mid 30’s, after the birth of my two beautiful children, my life finally was becoming too much for me to handle. I knew I needed to stop, stop everything I was doing to myself and start showing up for my one precious life. This shift and sense of wanting to seek freedom and happiness in my life was sparked through my yoga practice. I knew that on my yoga mat I found peace and the more I learnt about yoga, the more I came to realize it was here that I was really able to stop listening to the stories in mind and connect, really start connecting and caring about my body, my breath, my true self.
Yoga means union, and through my love of yoga and passion of the barre workout, I am so beyond thrilled to finally be able to offer Union Barre classes to my community. I hope through sharing my story and offering this class I can support and empower those who are also looking to create more balance, strength and happiness in their own lives. Each Union Barre class will incorporate meditation, sweet, simple vinyasa flows, breath work and ballet barre conditioning. Our barre exercises will focus on building muscle tone and definition in the arms, legs, glutes and core. No actual dancing is involved or experienced required. Through our muscle isolation and isometric movements, your body will shake and quiver, which is all good, as this will be your body telling you its awake, transforming and becoming stronger, more defined. With a dedicated practice you will notice results, not just in your sculpted body and smaller waistline, but with better posture, body alignment, awareness and confidence.
It is my hope that Union Barre will energize you, leave you feeling more powerful, connected, alive and awake in your one precious life.
I am so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to live my passion, shine my light and share my teachings with you! I hope you make yourself a priority, take some time for you and perhaps join me Wednesday’s at Janati for Union Barre.
With so much love & gratitude,
PS – a special note of thanks to my teacher Kathryn Anne Flynn, who gave this precious stone of tourmalinated quartz to me at the end of my teacher training. You saw me, supported me and this has been a great gift of inspiration & guidance. xoxo
