“You can choose comfort or you can choose courage, but you can’t have both. Not at the same time.”
This quote has been a guiding light for me over the past year. Change is hard. Change is scary. Change is inevitable. When you are shifting through those murcky waters, at times it may feel that there is no easy way out, and there really isn’t. I have sat and thought about that so many times. Easy would be so much…well easier. Easier, but far less rewarding.
So how do you get to that place of calm in turbulent water?
The truth is, I don’t know. I am still finding the answers to that question myself. But I do know that when you navigate through all of the gunk, and speak your truth, even when your voice shakes, you somehow end up in a better place. It is in those moments of trembling voice where you find your courage – your inner strength – your true north. So go there, even when you don’t feel that you have the capacity to do so. Comfort doesn’t move you, it holds you hostage, keeps you stagnant. Doing things that scare you teaches you to grow. In many instances, that change, that growing, that movement will open doors for you you never knew existed.
So, do as “they” say and do one small thing a day that scares you.
