This week let’s talk more about our third and final pillar of health!
Pillar #3: Resource (Energy) Management
The third pillar of health is managing our own resources, our own energy. We all know what’s it like to over-do, and chronic over-doing is slowly sapping away our resilience, strength, balance and health.
I like to think of this pillar in a few different ways:
2. Healthy Boundaries
4. Learning to say NO
Culturally we are invited to be all things to all people, to say yes to everything, and to think we can have it all. Eventually I’m sure you can, and yet in one moment there is only so much any one container can hold. Realistically, we have to pick and choose. We can’t do everything in this moment, we can’t be everything to everyone all the time, and thinking we can is making us sick.
This pillar invites you to consider what your life priorities are, what your purpose is, and to focus in that direction. It does not mean dropping our responsibilities. It’s an opportunity to recognize that you only have so much time and energy, and then to think about how your want to direct these precious life resources.
I’ve also found it helpful to consider what is using up my resources. Am I doing things that deplete my well? We often think about refilling the well, and forget that refilling a well with a big hole in the bottom is not actually going to help anything.
What I love about these three pillars is their interconnectivity. Do you see how being well nourished gives you more resources/energy to spend? Do you see how sleeping well is a form of nourishment? How if your tank is totally empty you don’t sleep well?
These three pillars work synergistically to build, support, and enhance your well-being on all levels.
Consider which pillar you are strong in, which pillar could use some shoring up, and what you might do to shore yourself up. Leave me a comment below – I’d love to hear how you are going to work with these three pillars of health.
To your well-being,
